WISDOM TEETH REMOVAL

  1. What are wisdom teeth?

    Wisdom Teeth
  • Wisdom teeth are the third and final set of molars that most people get in their late teens or early twenties (Usually come in between the ages of 18 and 25)
  • Sometimes these teeth can be a valuable asset to the mouth when healthy and properly aligned, but more often, they are misaligned and require removal.
  1. When is Removal Needed?

After taken out at Global Dental
  • Dentist checkup when wisdom teeth cause problems, or checkup X-rays show they might down the line, they need to come out.
  • Other good reasons to take them out include:

+ Damage to other teeth (Damage to nearby teeth): That extra set of molars can push your other teeth around, causing mouth pain and bite problems.

+ Jaw damage: Cysts can form around the new teeth. If they aren’t treated, they can hollow out your jaw and damage nerves.

+ Sinus Issues: Problems with wisdom teeth can lead to sinus pain, pressure, and congestion.

+ Inflamed Gums: Tissue around the area can swell and may be hard to clean.

+ Cavities: Swollen gums can create pockets between teeth that help bacteria grow and cavities form.

+ Alignment: Impacted wisdom teeth can cause problems with crowding of other teeth and even make treatment to straighten other teeth necessary.

  1. Wisdom Teeth Removal:
  • Before Surgery

+ Dentist checkup and take X-ray CT Conebeam

Take CT 3D

+ You’ll meet with the oral surgeon to talk about the process.

+ Discuss what type of anesthesia or local anaesthetic  you’ll have, general anaesthetic is rarely necessary (When it’s needed, some case your wisdom tooth will be removed in hospital).

+ Some case your dentist or surgeon may give you a antibioics and imflammatory to take you before 1-2 days. This usually involves an tooth infections and healing after fast extractions

  • During Surgery:

    Extraction by Dr Cong

+ Your doctor will numb your mouth with a shot of local anesthetic such as novocaine, lidocaine or mepivicaine…( your wisdom teeth removed, you’ll be given an injection of local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and surrounding area).

+ Technique Piezontome II: If the tooth hasn’t come through the gum, a small cut (incision) will be made in the gum to access it. A small piece of the bone covering the tooth may also need to be removed. The tooth may be cut into smaller parts to make it easier to remove through the opening. There’s less need to make an incision if the tooth has broken through the gum. If an incision has been made, dissolving stitches are used to seal the gum. Surgery to remove wisdom teeth shouldn’t be painful by technique Piezotome.

+ How long it takes to remove the tooth will vary. Simple procedures can take a few minutes, but it can take longer than 20 minutes if it’s more complicated.

  • After surgery:

+ Your dentist may place gauze over the site of the extraction, ask you to keep pressure on it by biting your jaws together for up to 30 minute – an hour and hold a cold pack against your jaw intermittently to help with soreness and swelling (Use an ice pack on your face to curb swelling or skin color changes).

After Extraction Wisdom Tooth at Global Dental

+ Everyone responds differently to anesthesia. If you had a local anesthetic and feel alert, you might be able to drive home to begin your recovery. You might even be able to go back to work or do your normal activities.

+ Use moist heat for a sore jaw or swelling after 1 day surgery.

+ Try not to spit too much so you won’t move the blood clot that’s keeping the area from bleeding. Drink lots of water, but stay away from alcohol, hot beverages, or sodas for 24 hours.

+ Gently open and close your mouth to exercise your jaw, Eat soft foods like pasta, rice, or soup, Drink plenty of fluids, Brush your teeth starting the second day, Don’t brush against any blood clots.

+ Take the drugs your doctor prescribes to ease pain or swelling.

+ Don’t drink through a straw. Sucking may loosen blood clots that help your mouth heal.

+ Don’t rinse your mouth too harshly. Your doctor may suggest rinsing gently with saltwater.

+ Don’t eat hard, crunchy, or sticky foods that may scratch your wounds.

+ Don’t smoke. Smoking can slow your healing.

Your dentist will tell you how long the stitches take to dissolve (usually 7 to 10 days).Call your doctor if you have a fever, or if your pain or swelling doesn’t improve, You have a hard time breathing or swallowing, Blood won’t stop oozing after a day or two, or pain lasts more than a week, Your face or jaw stays swollen for more than a few days, You have a fever, You feel numbness or notice pus or foul smells.
